How to organize Claude chats

Claude keeps a list of recent chats, newest first. That is fine for today's work and slow for anything older than a week.

Use Projects for shared context

Claude Projects hold documents and instructions that every chat in the project can use. They suit ongoing work like a codebase, a book or a research topic. Chats you start inside a project stay grouped there.

Use folders for everything else

Most chats do not need shared files. They just need a place. Foldwell gives Claude nested folders in a Chrome side panel.

  1. Add Foldwell to Chrome and open claude.ai.
  2. Open the Foldwell side panel from the extension icon.
  3. Make a folder, then drag chats in from the Claude sidebar.
  4. Open any filed chat by clicking its title in the panel.

Your ChatGPT and Gemini chats can go in the same folders, so one project folder can hold every chat about that project, whichever assistant you used.

A habit that keeps the list short
